A New York family lost their son to a train accident in June of 2005. The man was driving his car early in the morning on a sunny June day when his car collided with a train. He never saw or heard the train coming. The sun glare blinded him and made the oncoming train invisible.
The family filed a wrongful death suit against the train company saying that they were careless and negligent and proper precautions were not taken to prevent the accident.
Illinois has also seen its fair share of train accidents. Some of these accidents are because of careless people but others are because the right safety precautions are not present. Train crossings need to be monitored frequently for problems like glaring sun or not enough room for cars to stop before the train passes. If these precautions were in place many people would still be alive. After several deadly accidents involving Metra and other Chicago train lines over the past few years, hopefully new safety measures are being put in place.
