The first lawsuits have been filed in the salmonella outbreak related to Peter Pan peanut butter. A Missouri family and a Texas family have filed lawsuits in their respective states.

The Texas lawsuit alleges that two young children became ill after eating the infected peanut butter while the Missouri lawsuit claims the family became sick back in October after eating Great Value peanut butter.

The infection is rarely fatal but is quite uncomfortable and can last from five to seven days.

To date there have also been cases reported in Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois and at least 34 other states .
