The FDA first reported a recall of various types of Menu Foods pet food on March 17, 2007.  Since then an investigation into the cause of the contaminated pet food has been ongoing.  The latest report is that the 60 million containers of dog and cat food were recalled due to a chemical that is used in fertilizer that was causing kidney failure and death in many animals that ingested the food.

To date the FDA has received over 8,000 complaints and Menu Foods has received over 300,000.  While the official count of pets that have died is only 16 according to Menu Foods, it is more likely that the number of deaths is in the hundreds or thousands.

If your pet has been affected by the contaminated food, keep the pet food in a safe place and contact an attorney immediately.  You may be able to take legal action against Menu Foods.
