Four Die In Helicopter Crash

Comments Off

Four people were killed Thursday afternoon while on a helicopter tour in Hawaii. The helicopter reported problems only two miles after it had taken off. The helicopter crash is one of many that have occurred in Hawaii and in Alaska and are the reason for a recent push on new helicopter safety regulations.

The National Transportation Safety Board issued a request for tougher regulations on tour helicopters just a few weeks before this crash. The amount of crashes that happen and injuries and deaths that occur are often not tracked closely by the FAA. Because of the failure to track these numbers properly, it is likely the number of deaths and injures are much higher than previously thought. The risk associated with these rides needs to be made public so that people understand the danger that they are putting themselves in when taking these rides, and the FAA needs to have stricter regulations so this risk is decreased.
