Death Toll Rises in Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

Comments Off

The initial report of six dead has now risen to seven, and it is believed twenty to thirty people or more are still missing. At least 79 people were injured in the horrific collapse. As many as 50 cars still remain in the river, and it is unknown if those cars hold additional victims. The water is seven to eight feet deep, which is high enough to cover most cars.

Videos taken of the bridge show that the center of the bridge collapsed into the river in under four seconds, making it impossible for people to move to safety prior to the collapse. The bridge was in the midst of repairs when the collapse occurred and one of the eight workers on the bridge is still unaccounted for at this time. The investigation continues into what caused the collapse, but the city of Minneapolis is going to have a lot of questions to answer in the upcoming days and weeks, especially to those injured and those families who lost loved ones.
